Inventory Replenishment

The Inventory Tracker Kit can be used to determine inventory replenishment. It's a simple task that must be done by most companies and is simple to do using barcodes.  Using the Cipher Inventory Scanner to collect the inventory (part number and quantity) the Master Inventory List can be updated to reflect the total stock on hand.

If minimum quantities are to be maintained, then using simple calculations in Excel, one can also determine what needs to be restocked and how many.  This is the simplicity and beauty of using Inventory Tracker to help determine replenishment needs of your organization.

Here's an example of a company we'll call XYZ Co. that needs to have it's salesman determine the stock needs of it's clients.  The salesman goes to each customer and takes a weekly inventory of their stock using the Cipher barcode scanner by scanning the part number and entering the total quantity of that particular part. Here's how it works:

  1. First, using the portable Cipher Inventory Scanner, the salesman would take an inventory of all the items in the store or stockroom.  He does this by scanning the barcode of the item and then entering the total quantity of that item. (Sample transaction file)

  2. After, the inventory has been completed; the salesman transfers the Transaction data from the Cipher Inventory Scanner to his laptop.  This Transaction file is then emailed to Company Headquarters.
  3. Once the Transaction file has been collected by headquarters it can be checked for accuracy for such things as duplicates, etc. Then using the Inventory Tracker Utility and a Master Spreadsheet Template for that company, the Transaction data can be married up with the Master Spreadsheet Template. (Master Spreadsheet Template Sample)

  4. Since the Master Spreadsheet in this case is for a particular customer or company, then it will start the Qty field with zeros so that this field is filled in with the actual count from the Transaction file.
  5. Once the Transaction Utility is run and you have a complete list of part numbers and the actual count, then you are ready to make an actual calculation of the quantity needed to replenish the stock (the difference between the Qty field and the Min Qty field).  This is done by using the power of Excel to make these calculations.  (Results after running calculations)

  6. Finally, the new Master Table is sorted according to the items needed to replenish that companies stock and can be saved and integrated with existing software and used according to the procedures for replenishment that the company already has in place.
